See where you show up in Google Maps, block by block.
See where your business shows up in Google Maps for the searches that matter, block by block across your area: the spots you win, the spots where a competitor outranks you, and how that changes from month to month.
Ranks come from a maps service queried at each point on the grid. How this is measured
One search from your desk is one data point
Search for your own service from your front desk and you'll probably like what you see. Google weighs distance from the searcher when it ranks local results, alongside relevance and prominence, so one check from one spot tells you little about the area you serve. The tracker asks the same question from every point on a grid and keeps every answer, so what you follow is the pattern and how it moves.
What it measures
Map Rank Tracker measures where your business appears for a search, at every point on a grid centred on your location, up to seven by seven, for up to 10 searches. One collection measures the whole grid, and each one is kept, so after a few months you can see which parts of your area you are winning and which you are losing.
A number in every cell
Each point on the grid shows your rank, so it reads the same in a printed report and for a colour-blind reader.
Gaps stay gaps
A point that got no answer says Not measured and is never scored as a loss. A point that returned an empty list says No results, because nobody ranked there.
Visibility Score and Share of Local Voice
One number for your ranks across the grid, and the share of measured points where you were in the top three. Both count measured points only and stay blank when nothing was measured.
Who else shows up
Every business that appeared anywhere on your grid, strongest first, with how many points it appeared at and how many it was top three at.
How we measure, and what the number is not
Google does not publish where a business ranks for a searcher standing at a given spot. Every map-grid rank tracker on the market approximates it by asking a maps service what it would return at a coordinate. Three things follow, and you should know all three.
The field is right.
We checked ours against Google by hand, at two points on a real grid, and every business Google showed organically was in our list at both. If a competitor is ranking near you, you will see them here.
The order weights how close a business is more heavily than Google's own app does.
So read your rank as "how near the top of the local field am I", not as a number you could reproduce by searching on your phone.
Movement is worth more than position.
A cell that goes from ninth to fourth over three months is a real change, measured the same way twice.
If you need the exact position Google would show a phone on one particular street, no grid tracker on the market gives you that, this one included.
How often it measures
Map Rank Tracker works per location, and Pro includes two locations per site. Each location gets one automatic collection a month plus two you can start yourself, and the first one, when you set it up, doesn't count against that. Add the location with its Google listing on the site's Locations tab first.
When part of the grid slips
The Google Business Profile Grader ranks your profile's gaps by what they're costing you, the Review Inbox works on the same locations, and the Local Page Builder plans a page for one service in one city. All are included with Pro.
Questions about map rankings
- Which plan includes Map Rank Tracker?
- Pro, at $99/month, which includes all eighteen tools and every tool that ships later. On Starter the tools are visible but locked.
- Will a search on my phone show the same order?
- Not necessarily. The tracker sees the same field of businesses Google shows, and its order weights how close a business is more heavily than Google's own app does. Read a rank as how near the top of the local field you are, and watch how it moves. Every map-grid tracker works this way, because Google doesn't publish rank by location.
- What's the difference between Not measured and No results?
- Not measured means the collection asked for that point and got no answer, so it's never scored as if you didn't rank. No results means the service returned an empty list there: nobody ranked at that point for that search.
- How often does it measure?
- One automatic collection a month per location, plus two you can start yourself. Pro includes two locations per site.
