Branded regex generator: split your brand from your SEO

Type your brand name, get the Search Console regex that isolates branded searches: spacing variants, domain fragments, and likely misspellings included. Nothing leaves your browser.

What to do with it: the 10-minute social ROI check

Branded search volume is the downstream proxy for brand awareness. If your social posting, PR, or podcast appearances are working, more people search your name. Here's the loop:

  1. Search Console → Performance → Search results.
  2. Add filter → Query → Custom (regex) → Matches regex → paste your pattern.
  3. Date filter → More → Compare last 3 months to previous period.
  4. Read the branded clicks and impressions delta. Up meaningfully: your off-site work is turning into brand demand. Flat while you've been posting for months: the content isn't landing, and that's worth knowing too.

One caveat we'd rather state than have you discover: PR hits, paid brand campaigns, and seasonality also lift branded search. Read the trend against your actual activity calendar, not in a vacuum.

Validate before you trust it

Every generated regex is a draft until it meets your data. The 60-second validation pass:

  1. Apply the filter and sort queries by impressions.
  2. Skim the top 50 queries. Everything should read as someone looking for you specifically.
  3. See a generic query that slipped in? Toggle off the variant that caught it (usually a broad single word) and re-copy.
  4. Spot a real misspelling of your brand in the data? Add it in the nicknames field and regenerate.

Your real misspellings live in your own query data, which is why the tool lets you add them instead of guessing at all of them.

Prefer to ask an LLM instead?

The prompt version of this tool, for exotic brand names the variant rules can't anticipate. Same validation pass applies.

My brand name is [BRAND NAME]. My URL is [URL]. Give me regex for Google Search Console to filter for only branded searches. Include any possible variations (misspellings, spacing, brand + domain fragments).

Where this fits

The full method (why branded search beats vanity metrics, and how to read the trend) is in our guide to measuring social media ROI with Search Console. And the non-branded view this filter creates is where our other GSC plays run: the Intent Prompt Pack sorts those queries by buyer intent, and the Striking Distance Harvest Kit turns the almost-ranking ones into fixes. Everything free lives on the giveaway shelf.

FAQ

What does the branded regex generator do?
It turns your brand name and URL into a Search Console-ready regex that matches every way people search for you: the name as written, unspaced and hyphenated variants, your domain with and without the TLD, likely doubled-letter misspellings, and any nicknames you add. You toggle variants on or off and copy one pattern.
Why would I filter for branded searches?
Two reasons. Branded search volume is the cleanest free proxy for whether your off-site marketing (social, PR, podcasts) is building brand awareness: compare branded clicks period over period and you have a trend line no platform vanity metric can fake. And the inverse filter (doesn't match) gives you your true non-branded SEO performance, with brand noise removed.
Does my brand data leave the browser?
No. The generator runs entirely in your browser: no signup, no server call, and nothing is stored. Type, generate, copy, close the tab.
